Music background and any previous bands
Ian remembers music always being part of his childhood. His sister was a huge music fan and introduced Ian to many bands including Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd and Mike Oldfield – all of which would become influences later on. Ian began to play acoustic guitar in his teens learning on a battered 12 string – with just 6 strings! He later took up bass after borrowing a friends bass guitar. Ian eventually returned to the guitar and later on, keyboards.
Ian’s first band was Angel Heart – a Swansea based 3 piece playing original material and covers. This evolved into a 5 piece band called The Big Pink who went on to win a battle of the bands competion in Swansea and also an appearance on the Melody Maker stage of the 1992 Heineken Festival in Swansea headlined by The Manic Street Preachers.
